KINKEN-WAKATE is an official annual event of Institute for Materials Research (IMR) since 2004. Attendies can learn advanced materials science and novel experimental techniques by the experts' lectures for young researchers and graduate students. In 2012, the theme of this school is "Materials Science by Neutrons and X-rays". We will give lectures about introduction of neutron and X-ray scattering and its applications in novel materials science. As participants, the organisers expect young researchers and students who are interested in investigations using neutrons and X-rays, but have NO experience of such experiments. Thus, the KINKEN-WAKATE is a good opportunity to know basic properties of neutron and X-rays elastic and inelastic scattering, and excellent results of materials science by neutron and X-ray scattering as well. As the night session, all the participants will give a short talk for ~5min. about their present investigations.

Invited Lectures

Prof. Yukio Noda (Tohoku Univ):
Introduction of neutron and X-ray scattering

Prof. Junichiro Mizuki (Kwansei Gakuin Univ.)
Introduction of X-ray experiments mainly in SPring-8

Dr. Seongsu Lee (HANARO, Korea)
Structural investigations by neutron powder diffraction: magnetic and crystal structure refinements

Prof. Seunghun Lee (Univ. of Virginia, USA) : Introductions of inelastic neutron scattering, investigations of spin and lattice dynamic

As a night session, this school has a session in which the participants will give a short talk for ~5min. about their present investigations in English.

KINKEN-WAKATE is organized by Center of Neutron Science for Advanced Materials, (NC-IMR) , and International Collaboration Center (ICC-IMR), Institute for Materials Research (IMR), Tohoku University
